Urantia BROTHERHOOD

Memorandum

TO: Members of the General Council

DATE: July 21, 1989

FROM: David Elders

SUBJ: Relationship with Urantia Foundation

On Monday, July 17, 1989 the Executive Committee met in Special Session to discuss the import of the recent resignations as Trustees of Gloriann Harris, Frank Sgaraglino, and Helena Sprague. Our meeting was outstanding, and we reached unanimity on our concerns and conclusions as expressed in the attached letter to the Trustees of Urantia Foundation.

Because the stand we have taken may have broader implications for Urantia Brotherhood and may well involve decisions which could set a new course for the future, the Executive Committee has called a Special Meeting of the General Council beginning at 2:00 PM, Saturday, September 16, 1989 and ending at 4:00 PM, Sunday, September 17, 1989 at a location in Chicago to be announced shortly. The subject of this meeting will obviously be our, relationship with Urantia Foundation and consideration of those factors which we need to evaluate in our decision‑making from now on.

An official meeting notification will be forwarded to you shortly providing you with logistical details. We hope you will all be able to attend. I have also enclosed a copy of a letter which will be sent to all the members of Urantia Brotherhood next week in an effort to minimize rumor activity. Also, I believe I am speaking for the entire Executive Committee in saying we believe that this issue is an emotionally‑charged one which will require each of us to act with as much sensitivity, responsibility, honor, and grace as is possible.

Please feel free to contact any (or all) member(s) of the Executive Committee or your peers on the Council to discuss this issue and your concerns. We would appreciate it, however, you would not stimulate the rumor mill by discussing these matters with non‑Councilors until we have a chance to allow the group process of our September meeting to work.

Thanks. See you then.
